Harlow Fields: Concerns over proposed closure of vital swimming pool

HARLOW MP, Robert Halfon, has responded to the proposed closure of the hydrotherapy pool at Harlow Fields School and College.
Harlow MP, Robert Halfon commented, “I have been made aware of the proposal to temporarily close the hydrotherapy and swimming pool at Harlow Fields School and College. I know how much the pool is used and appreciated and I am deeply worried about this and share concerns raised for the young people who benefit so much from the pool.
“I am working hard with Harlow Fields School and College to do all I can to find a solution that will keep the pool open.
“I have written to the Cabinet member for education at Essex County Council to discuss what support the Council may be able to provide and will continue to liaise with colleagues. I have further raised this issue as a matter of urgency with senior leaders at Harlow Council to highlight the impact of the proposed closure on the local community and I am speaking to a number of sports bodies regarding grant funding to keep the pool open.
“This issue of the pool closure is a priority for me and I will continue to raise it within the local councils and in Parliament, doing all I can to support Harlow Fields School and College to keep the pool open.”
Good luck .
The school cannot afford to pay to heat the pool because of the energy price increases which Mr Halfon’s party has chosen not to tackle in any meaningful way. His efforts to organise funding are admirable but I hope this situation gives him pause for thought about his wider politics.
This is now more than a temporary closure and not really looking to reopen until autumn at best . I hire out the pool and now forced to close affecting up to 60 children. This is just one aspect of this, the affect of the children of this school for both physical and mental health is unmeasurable. Rob Halfon told me he is looking for a long term solution but that will be too late for some and I am afraid this is on his doorstep and party .
