Harlow Labour leader calls for Robert Halfon to back Tory rebels and pay nurses more

HARLOW Labour Leader Chris Vince has called for MP Robert Halfon to back Tory rebels and pay nurses more.
Cllr Vince said: “When the pandemic was at its worst, residents of Harlow were united in standing on their doorsteps to clap for nurses and carers every Thursday.
We knew how hard they were working, often risking their own lives without proper PPE, and we were grateful for their sacrifice. But claps don’t pay the bills and it is shameful that we have seen fully trained health professionals having to use foodbanks, or choose between heating and eating.
For twelve years nurses have suffered from real terms wages cuts and that must stop. Two Conservative MPs have broken with the Prime Minister’s insistence that nurses receive another real terms pay cut this year and have called for the Government to make a new, much improved offer. It is time Harlow’s MP did the same.It is my view that, at the very least, nurses should be no worse off this year than last. It’s long overrdue for the Government, who found plenty of money for dodgy PPE that made huge profits for their cronies, to find the money for a decent pay offer and end the strikes”
Chris Vince is right. Nurses deserve a pay rise and Harlow deserves an MP who will stand up and say so.
This country really has reached rock bottom if we can't afford to give nurses a decent pay rise. Unfortunately many Tory MPs will see it as a them or us situation because they think they need to deliver low taxes to get re-elected. That simply isn't the case; they need to re-engage with their morals and do what's fair.
Total garbage from Labour. Their Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting, in an article for last week's Sunday Telegraph, says Labour won't pay the health unions' pay demands, but they will have a pointless chat. In the next breath Streeting says he wants to end the "something for nothing culture" in the NHS. What a pompous, out of touch clown. This article is just more hot air from Mr Vince as usual. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/12/10/labour-vows-war-hostile-health-unions/
On Sunday 11th December I emailed Chris Vince the following question, but so far I've not had a reply: "Will I be able to look forward to another of your YourHarlow letters, this time agreeing with Wes Streeting's anti-union comments in today's Sunday Telegraph?" Original email forwarded to YourHarlow editor Michael Casey.
I notice Cllr Vince's demand lacks ambition: "nurses should be no worse off this year than last." Wow, that hardly makes up for years of pay freezes and below inflation rises since 2010. Don't get too carried away Vince or we will all need to take a chill pill.
Until they read the mood of this country, there will be no change. People before profit.
27k starting salary for a 3 year uni degree is pitiful for a new nurse, they need 15% payrise just to make nursing a worthwhile career
