A COUNCILLOR for the area which includes The Stow has pledged to step up a meeting in light of a number of incidents in her ward.
Mark Hall ward councillor Lanie Shears said: “I was concerned to hear of the disturbances and anti-social behaviour in the Stow last night (Sunday).
“I am sure it must have been unsettling for residents. I know residents will be reassured by the swift response of the police.
I am currently working with the police to set up a residents meeting alongside the community safety engagement officers and beat police.
“If anyone has any information, dashcam or video doorbell footage of the incident please contact the police on 101 quoting incident number 42/21641/23”.
More lip service. They can’t even fix the roads so what hope have they got of sorting out the disaffected youth of the town? All very well pointing the finger at parents, but if they don’t, won’t or can’t keep their kids under control the whole community suffers the consequences. Money needs spent on youth services in the town as a matter of urgency. If not, it’s going to be carnage out there come summer
I agree with CONCERNED RESIDENT. I was lucky to have grown up in Harlow In the 60's, 70's and early 80s. Although we were all relatively poor, us latchkey kids had Playschemes (pool, ping-pong, table tennis..etc) A Olympic standard swimming pool with boards..A sportcentre with track and field, Boxing clubs Scouts/Guides etc...Square One, later the Square which was funded through ECC ...WHERE/WHY HAS IT ALL GONE?....I can see the implications of losing them ... And now I understand why those services were first put in place in the Sixties and how it helped "Society"!
So sad to see how Harlow has ended up! What was once a fantastic town is now an absolute dump! This country no longer has any identity and is completely lawless! The politicians and local councillors think more about themselves rather than knuckling down and doing what is best for the local community! Start investing in law and order, control immigration and stop thinking that the most important thing is to keep building more houses in the area, adding to the existing problems and merely lining the pockets of this inadequate political system!
The solution is for people to stand as independents remove the politicking politicians and build a better won for us all. I have lived here 20+ years now consider it home but it has decline significantly and that is due to ALL parties. As for the kids we need to give them somewhere to go and do, plus we also need police on the streets for those few who want to cause trouble. Again simple to do Harlow C collect the money for Essex PCC and Essex CC stop handing over money until level of service is deemed acceptable
It's not lip service meetings that is needed, it's high profile policing with Zero Tolerance to antisocial behaviour backed up by the justice system giving out stronger sentences.
Hopefully our local politicians will notice the common thread from these and other comments over the past couple of years and get the message that action not words are needed. In fact I would go as far to say that they have now run out of words and only action will get the attention of the electorate.
Don,t hold your breath Theman
A meeting will indeed help. Until the next stabbing.
As a resident I would support such a meeting but can we not just make this about policing? There are many positives about the area - it is why I love living there - but also many negatives which contribute to the sense of low-level lawlessness that is common to many places I have seen in the UK. Police presence is important but so is noise, litter, the nightime economy and so on. We need to enjoy using and take pride in our public spaces.
Neilwarnerbaker, wellsaid I have been saying the exact same as you for many years. We had it all here in harlow didnt we and we had none of this knife crime and youths in gangs running riot etc... harlow was a really lovely town and it has been totaly ruined. Why would you take away all what we had in this town and turn it in to what the town is now? Nothing is better in harlow but everything is worse. I am old enough to know what harlow was and also what harlow is like now and it really is sad that a once lovely tkwn that had it all has now been ruined. Yes things change,i am aware of that but nothing has changed for the better at all.
The comment from FLUFF, well i could not have said it better myself. 100% spot on. Everything in your comment is what i go on about nearly every single day, I salute you LOL!!! well said and true.
