ON Wednesday 25th January, Mark Hall Academy welcomed a representative from David Wilson Homes to deliver an assembly for their Year 8 students. The housebuilder, responsible for the Sawbridge Park development in Sawbridgeworth, used the assembly to provide useful insight into how students can stay safe when near an active building site.
The 20-minute morning assembly was delivered by Daniel Adiele, Project Manager for David Wilson North Thames, and focused on the essential rules to abide by when playing near active sites. This included, potential hazards, and ways to avoid them, as well as the importance of appropriate footwear and clothing.
Noel Lysons, Head of Art and Design at Mark Hall Academy, added: “Young people love to play and spend time outside, and it is very important for us to make sure that they are safe when doing so. As an Art and Design teacher, I understand the importance of safety when working with tools, and I would always encourage our students to learn more about the dangers they face outside the classroom.”
The assembly was provided as part of an ongoing partnership between Mark Hall Academy and David Wilson North Thames, which previously saw the students take part in a site safety poster design competition, with the three winning designs displayed on the hoarding at Sawbridge Park.
Marc Woolfe, Head of Sales for David Wilson North Thames, comments: “It is important to educate young people on site safety to help them understand the dangers of playing near active sites. As a housebuilder, we are responsible for the areas surrounding our developments and the safety of those living there, it is our goal to educate and protect these communities in any way we can. I hope that the students at Mark Hall Academy enjoyed the assembly and came away with a deeper understanding of the dangers of playing near a building site.”
