Royal Mail defend decision to move much-loved posties from their routes in Harlow

News / Tue 7th Feb 2023 at 03:58pm

THE Royal Mail has defended its decision to move a number of postmen and women from their routes.

Routes they have served for years and become, as many residents described, essential members of their community.

Last week, YH published a letter from an Upper Park resident. A resident in Churchgate Street has also been in contact.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Over the last 10 years, the number of addresses we deliver to has grown by more than 2 million and many postmen and women’s routes have not been revised in this time.

“This can mean that some routes can be an hour or two longer than others, for example where new housing developments have been built.

Jointly with our trade unions, we have revised routes throughout the country to ensure they are fairer and reflect the growth in addresses and parcel deliveries.

We have recently undertaken such a revision in the areas that include Upper Park and Churchgate Street in Harlow.

“This will have no impact on the quality of service received by our customers in the local area.”

It's such a shame that this has happened to our lovely Postie Simon in Upper Park. It will affect his wellbeing and enjoyment of his job, and it will affect our neighbours in how they feel with losing a friendly and very helpful member of our community. It's very sad. Pretty sure this could have been looked at on an individual delivery route basis.

Changing delivery routes. Big deal! Most will still be in Spoons by 11am.

Glad putin, yes it's a terrible shame but sadly beyond our control, the world still revolves tho and we are still entitled to air our views on things that matter and effect us.

David Benson Phillips, why shouldn't they??? If their shift has finished and you've got your post what's the problem???

Seems that the problem is that the employers were so neglectful that having established managable working routes and delivery areas they didn't notice that large housing estates were being built, failed to recruit more staff and overloaded the posties: no wonder postal workers are on strike. After all Churchgate Street Village hasn't grown nor has Upper Park and the postal company managers couldn't give a monkey's about the opinion of their customers like the residents of upper park. That's what happens when a public service is changed into.a business: the former serves the public in the broadest sense (like Simon) the later serves the shareholders. It's what successive governments have planned to do to the nhs.

Absolute disgrace-we live in the new house estate next to sainsburys for 15yrs, tricky route to learn however our postie Mary has been absolutely fantastic for last 8yrs self redirecting incorrect labels as she knows everyone, knows who can have stuff left in safe place to save more work by sorting office! Now it’s been split into 2 rounds with postie that won’t know the estate, won’t get a tour by Mary and won’t know the people! Absolute disgrace with trying to fix a problem that’s not broken-something needs to be said to stop this stupidness!

Mary is on our estate Facebook page which also helps deliver an exceptional service plus assists in locating mail for people addressed wrong!

I haven't received any post in months but that could be down to the fact that no one likes me

Bad move Royal Mail! Clearly you care very little about the community! Mary is a fine example, a lady who cares and knows everyone on her round and has become a massive part of the community. Open you wallet and take on more staff! Better still listen to those you deliver to. At this moment in time you are as low as you can go 😡

Whatever.

The Postie who was responsible for Old Harlow, Hobbs X Road etc , Rob, is worth is weight in AU. Attentive and caring about his round and a really nice fellow. His absence is being felt already. I gather that due to the re-shuffle we may only have two deliveries a week in the foreseeable future, if that's progress you can keep it.

As a community we are devastated that our much loved postman Bob has been taken away. He went above and beyond. He knew the vulnerable, he knew of something was t right. He looked out for us as we looked out for him. He's an asset to Royal Mail and I do hope he doesn’t leave because the change isn’t right for him. I hope he remains the happy caring man we’ve all come to know and love over all these years. I think it’s a very bad judgement form the powers that be.

Royal Mail are lying to the press. These routes were not changed with agreement with the union and were not changed for reasons of fair redistribution to equal workloads. Addresses are added to the service all the time. This decimation of your service is only happening now because Royal Mail is being run by asset stripping wide boys who don't give a single fig about the public service or your community . It all about them, not you. Rest assured Mary and Bob will be getting an even bigger round and are being hounded out of the business with unimaginably high workloads in order to take on poor new people on rates they can't make a decent life on.
