THIS January, Essex Working Well, as part of the NHS, issued a challenge to organisations across the county for groups of colleagues to get together and walk as much as possible in their Big Team Challenge.

From 16th to 30th January, 142 teams from all over Essex took part, with Harlow charity, Motability, entering a total of 17 teams.

Teams walked during meetings, lunch and tea breaks in an attempt to top the leader board, as well as taking long country walks, runs around Harlow and treks all over Essex and the neighbouring counties at weekends.

‘The Facilitators’, made up of members of Motability’s Facilities team, walked an incredible 1,174.6 kilometres taking top spot as overall winners of the challenge. They each won an amazon voucher from the Motability Wellbeing Working Group, presented by CEO Barry Le Grys, as well as a team activity day from Essex Working Well.

Barry Le Grys says “I’m proud that so many people from Motability supported this challenge, and for our Facilities team to rank highest in the county is a testament to their dedication.

“Walking can have such great benefits to both our physical and mental health, so we were delighted to support our colleagues. Overall, Motability’s teams walked 9,086.5 kilometres – enough to walk from Harlow to Florida and back!

“A fantastic initiative and achievement from all at Motability and across Essex.”

Although Motability is classed as a charity it is actually a taxpayer funded company that hands out cars and scooters. So technically they are civil servants.
