LOCAL charity, St Clare Hospice, who provide specialist palliative care to the people of West Essex and the east Hertfordshire borders, held a two day Thank-A-Thon on 9th and 10th February 2023.
The feel-good event saw 36 staff from across all areas of the Hospice, including doctors, nurses, administrators and the CEO, make 997 calls in just two days. The sole purpose of the Thank-A-Thon was to tell the hospice supporters how much their donations had meant to the local charity.
Amy Winehouse, Head of St Clare Relationship Fundraising explained, “We wanted to do something personal to thank as many people as we could with a phone call. We wanted to let them know how much we appreciate their continuing support of our hospice and the difference it makes to the families we care for. Over the two days, we made 997 calls to home phones, mobiles and businesses, and their reaction was simply lovely! Some people were naturally a little suspicious at first, but when we explained to them we didn’t want any money, we simply wanted to say thank you, you could almost see their smiles coming down the phone line. It takes £8,500 each day to run St Clare Hospice and without our local community, businesses and supporters, we simply couldn’t do what we do, for people facing their darkest times.”
