Harlow Gymnastics Club success at first event of the season

OUTSTANDING success at the first competition of the year for Harlow Gymnastics Club at Iceni Gymnastics Club in Colchester. Competing against Iceni and Dynamix in an invitational pre grade competition, Aria Franklin triumphed with the gold medal and 1st place overall trophy in the grade 5 event.

Aria also placed 1st on floor, 2nd on both bars and range & conditioning, and 3rd on vault. Competing in the same event, Janelle Campbell finished in 4th place overall, after placing 1st in R&C. Narrowly behind in 5th place overall, Freya Smith placed 2nd on floor and 3rd on bars. After placing 3rd on both vault and floor Marci Short finished in 9th place overall, with Lottie New placing 2nd on vault finishing in 10th overall, and Millie Smith finished in 12th overall.

Meanwhile in the grade 2 event, Kara McMahon secured the overall silver medal after a trio of 1st places on vault, floor and R&C along with 3rd place on beam. Teammate Genna Lee finished in 5th overall after placing 2nd on vault and 3rd on both bars and floor. 

The bronze overall medal was captured by Willow Richards in the grade 3 event who also placed 1st on both vault and R&C, along with 2nd on bars.

To round off the day, Olivia Beckwith accomplished the overall bronze medal in the grade 4 event after placing 2nd on vault, beam and floor, and 3rd on bars and R&C.

Squad coach Kerrie Hodges said, “We are incredibly proud of the hard work and determination the gymnasts have been putting into their training in the lead up to this competition and this has shown in their results.”
