On the border: Epping District Council to meet tonight to discuss local plan

News / Mon 6th Mar 2023 at 11:47am

THE Epping Forest District local plan will be discussed by their council tonight (Monday).

Before the meeting, The Epping Society will be holding a peaceful demonstration outside EFDC Council Offices to make their feelings known on EFDC development plans.

“They will also have a stall at the market that morning from 10am so please come and have a chat.

A spokesperson said: “Councillors will be meeting in the evening to discuss and rubber-stamp plans which in our view are Ill thought out and lacking in proper consultation and have a hugely negative impact on our town. We look forward to seeing you there”.

=====================

EFDC will meet at 7pm on Monday 6th March and have posted this on the council website.

A spokesperson for Epping Forest District Council said:

We are working on some technical issues, and hope to make a live stream available. It will also be recorded for subsequent upload to ensure everyone can view it.

The Local Plan has been a long time in the preparation. We are anticipating a long meeting. We have limited capacity in the public gallery. It would be a shame if people were to miss out on watching the meeting if the gallery is full. Instead, watch the meeting at your own convenience in your own home.

The spokesperson added:

‘The Local Plan report and supporting documents run to over 1,000 pages. Councillors will not be asked to discuss individual sites. They are being asked to note the government-appointed Inspector’s report on the examination, and adopt the Local Plan submitted to the Secretary of State as amended by the main and additional modifications.

If councillors agree, it will become the development plan for planning decisions in our district, together with ‘made’ neighbourhood development plans where relevant.’

Epping should not be dumping it's developments on Harlow borders. Their hggt pfp plan is simply to enrich the property developers who donate so much to the Conservative Party. No corrupted planning system or Councils here, the're all as trustworthy as Boris and prundent as Liz Truss.

Well Nostradamus, if you care to look at a map, Harlow has built much more on Epping Forest District Council’s borders than the other way around. Surely they may build in their own district. Harlow is just too small and insignificant as a pimple on the fringes of West Essex. We used to be part of Epping constituency until 1974. We are bordered by them on three sides. Surely it makes sense to become part of the same authority. They also have lower Council Tax.

If you study The Latton priory project as I have, There are NO plans for any infrastructure whatsoever , No Hospitals or health clinics until many years after the first phase of 500 houses followed by phase 2 a further 1000 houses are built? So that’s another 3,000 families overwhelming Harlow Towns Already broken NHS PAH Princess Alexander Hospital and Doctors surgeries. The So called East west Avenue from London road will bring tens of thousands more traffic on Harlows potholed roads, articulated lorries vans cars etc from the M11 down into Harlow via Ryehill Road St james infant school sits on the junction of Parringdon road. Further more these out of town planners are proposing a Green wedge bus route that will cutting through from Harlow town centre to Latton priory which will mean the demolition of Beckmead mountwood school, we need more schools in Harlow & Netteswell allotments and 100’s of house on Commonside road…These self serving profiteering planners and developers don’t care about Harlow town There is zero benefit to Harlow and Harlow’s residents to this ill thought out development. only misery and chaos to the streets of Harlow. Stop building on our GREEN BELT and Heritage land I hope EFDC & the planners & Developers will feel proud of themselves when they tell their grandchildren I approved and rubber stamped that concrete jungle..

As mentioned, just make it all a single authority. Makes sense. Harlow is too small and has no space left for housing.

John, I think you need to read the Infrastrucutre Delivery Plan so you appreciate the £millions of infrastructure and benefits coming to Harlow. It is not 3,000 families as there are not 3,000 houses proposed. There is no intention of bringing HGVs or additional traffic into Harlow from the M11 via Rye Hill Road. Yes, there will be a sustainable transport corridor constructed to the town centre to mitigate traffic and encourage more sustainable travel. And it is not our green belt being built on, it is Epping's. In fact, Harlow was all in Epping originally!

John, you are spot on. The same applies to the Gilston project s. Mr Hardware, its on our boarder s, and its still called destruction, of green belt. Are you telling people that the Gilston project s, are not a destruction of the green belt. ?? You say infrastructure will be put in place,,, but it won't be till all theses unaffordable housing estates are built, which means people will move in,, before hand. If any infrastructure will be built at all. Which means a anonymous amount of pressure on Harlow s services. Any sign of new hospital yet, just asking.

Voted through after a pretty short meting tonight. No mention of Harlow of course.

Whilst there are key people like Councillors and Officers who work for property companies and are seconded to hggt pfp involved with either Gilston estate development or Latton developments we simply cannot trust the assertions. Whichever way you look at it Harlow is being being dumped upon (there's stronger words but perhaps not for this medium) and paying the price to benefit East Herts and Epping Councils and their property developer friends. Greenbelt should never be built upon whilst there's brownfield sites available nor whilst property developers are banking land and there's actually more empty properties and houses than are actually needed.

Just to follow up my earlier post, 35 Councillors voted in favour (mostly if not all Conservative) 9 voted against and 3 abstained. It was clear that the Conservative group had met before the meeting to get their act together, indeed an independent Councillor asked if such a meeting had taken place but the question was of course not answered. Some 500 hectares of Green Belt will be lost to development.

No surprises what so ever, a repeat performance of Herts. Money speaks louder, much louder.

Thanks for the update Nicholas and the information that the Conservative Association have voted yet again as a block in favour of these developments.
