NHS 5% pay offer may end bitter dispute in England

A 5% pay rise from April has been offered to NHS staff in England, including nurses and ambulance workers reports the BBC.

In addition, staff have been offered a one-off payment of at least £1,655 to top up the past year’s pay award.

After the work they did during the covid epidemic, they deserve a lot more than bloody 5pc. Disgusting.

This offer, had it been made much earlier, would have been acceptable. However, the Tories thought they could play hardball to provoke strike action so they could demonize unions and get the public to turn against NHS workers. This dispute was seen as a way to return to the 'glory years' of Thatcherism. It is a nasty case of class politics that has backfired on the Tories. It also proves that if working people stand together then things can change for the better.
