KEEN historians at William Martin Junior School showed a bit of the Dunkirk spirit as they sang along to songs from World War 2.

The singing was led by the Sawbridgeworth Acoustic Strummers who entertained the Year 6 pupils.

The session came at the end of a term in which they had learned all about the war. But we also heard that the teaching also looked at comparisons with the conflict between 1939 and 1945 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Year 6 teacher, Laura Campbell said: ” What a wonderful way to end our World War II topic! The children have really enjoyed learning about this era of history  and have fully immersed themselves into their learning. Our VE Day style celebration with a live band really brought to life the war time spirit – an unforgettable afternoon!”
