Harlow Art Trust set to celebrate 70th Anniversary

Education: Secondary / Mon 3rd Apr 2023 at 07:32am

ON the 2nd of April 1953 Sir Philip Hendy (Knight Bachelor, Director of the National Gallery), Frederick Gibberd (Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Member of the Town Planning Institute, Planner the Harlow Development Corporation), William Eric Adam (M.B.E, General Manager of the Harlow Development Corporation) and Patricia Nanette Fox-Edwards (Married Woman) signed the Declaration of Trust. This marked the creation of the Harlow Art Trust. We have an exciting programme of events to celebrate this major milestone.

Their programme includes;

  • a major exhibition of work by Lee Grandjean ‘Seeing Things’ opening on 15 April at the Gibberd Gallery.

-a wonderful programme with schools and young people in partnership with Harlow Creates*. This will involve 24 schools and 12 artists all connected by our theme ‘Our Community, Our Environment’. This programme takes its inspiration from the sculpture carved out of Portland Stone in situ in Harlow in 1953, ‘Chiron’ by Mary Spencer Watson.

  • an exciting new stone carving project with our current Sculpture Town Artist in Residence (STAIR), Irena Posner.
  • plus new tours & talks & opportunities for many to get involved.

To be the first to find out about all these projects sign up to our free e-newsletter by going to our website page https://sculpturetown.uk/get-involved/
