As readers will know, this house, which dates back to at least the early 1920's has been standing empty for some years. The Council applied for Planning Permission in March 2022 to demolish the house and build 14 homes on the site. Over 50 residents objected to the proposals on a number of grounds and a revised application was made in January of this year. Such a development is wholly inappropriate for this site. Clearly not enough has been done to secure the site from vandals as would seem to be the case at the former Lister House site as well. Nearly two years since taking control of Harlow Council, there is no sign of the Tory housebuilding boom they promised. Nicholas Taylor, Leader of the Harlow Alliance Party.

Seems odd that a "fire" occurs in an old and possible listed building on land wanted by developers. The Maypole, land wanted by developers but issues stopping them: burned down. Northbrooks House, land wanted by developers but local issues stopping them: an unexplained fire. Paradise Lodge, land wanted by developers but local issues stopping them: an unexplained fire. Am I over thinking here? Nothing would surprise me nowadays

Darren, Sherards House and the surrounding land is owned by Harlow Council who are set to demolish the house and build on the land surrounding it. The same thing happened at a house called Faircroft in Old Harlow which the Council once owned and as has been mentioned Northbrooks House which ECC owned at one time. All houses which predated the building of the New Town, part of the towns heritage.
