Football: Frontiers come from behind to defeat Hutton
Football / Wed 12th Apr 2023 at 12:52pm
ON Sunday the Frontiers were back in action after a month without a game due to all the rain we have had.
This saw them host Hutton Reserves.
Frontiers made a bright start to the game getting the ball down and playing some good football and as the half went on would find space in behind the Hutton defence which would create chances but none of which was capitalised on and at the over end of the pitch Frontiers defence held strong when Hutton would have the ball in their defensive third and limited the opposition to long ranges efforts.
Half time 0-0
Second half was much like the first with Frontier having much of the possession but it would be the visitors who would take the lead in the 65th minute where there was a mix up in the Frontiers defence which gave Hutton’s striker time and space to run into the box and toe poke the shot past goalkeeper Sarah Walker into the top corner.
Now behind, Frontiers didn’t panic and carried on playing some good football and wasn’t long before they were on level terms as on the 76th minute, after the ball being played out of the defence, the ball would find itself at Ella Fobbester’s feet and at the second attempt would play a cross field ball to find Tayla Handscomb. With the ball being slightly behind her, she would stick her leg out to flick the ball in front so she could run on and drive it bottom corner.
Now with their tails up and looking very determined to get a second on the 81st minute Frontiers would win a corner for Tayla Handscomb to deliver into the box which would find Bilge Taspinar leap the highest and head home the winner.
As expected Hutton came on strong for the last ten minutes but Frontiers defenders were solid with some great defending from Captain Jackie Day and Shelley Anglin to make sure Frontiers would get all three points.
Boss Ronnie Yates said: “A very pleasing victory especially after four weeks off, the girls have worked their backsides off in training during that time which put them in a good position leading up to the game
Next week they head to Basildon to face Chelmsford City.
