Harlow Council thanks staff and police for resolving unauthorised encampment

News / Thu 13th Apr 2023 at 10:00am

HARLOW Council has issued the following statement following the recent unauthorised traveller encampment on Second Avenue:

“The caravans and vehicles left Second Avenue on Easter Monday afternoon (10 April 2023) after we served a notice asking that the site is vacated by the end of the Easter holiday weekend.

“We would like to thank our Community Safety team and Essex Police for their work in helping to resolve this matter so quickly. Both our officers and the police continued to regularly visit the unauthorised encampment over the Easter holiday weekend.

“We are pleased to have resolved this matter swiftly working in partnership with the police. The action we take will always be about upholding the law, responding to the concerns of residents and businesses, and protecting the town’s open spaces. It is not – and will never be about – persecuting any particular group of people or their way of life.”

“The public can report unauthorised traveller encampments on public land by calling us on 01279 446655 during normal office hours or 01279 446666 out of hours. Residents can also phone Essex Police on 101 if it is not an emergency.”

Except, of course, and especially with elections coming up, it is *entirely* about “persecuting (a) particular group of people or their way of life.” The most oppressed and deprived group in the country according to recent definitive survey & the more so because of the shameful performative ramping up of bigotry and persecution by Harlow’s very nasty Tories.

Michael, such nonsense. Which is this survey of which you speak? Throwing around unsubstantiated claims to support your comment, shows the lack of understanding of the residents of Harlow. Nothing to do with any party as the informed know full well they were also removed under Labour.

Michael, it's not oppressing any group or their way of life. They broke the law, the police and the council took action. That's all there is to it.

We have had travellers for centuries, there part of our history, perhaps is there was lands for them to go. But no you councils and developers want to build on every bit of land. I would rather look at them, than all the concrete monstrosity s you lot are building. There's good and bad in everybody, you should not put people in box's.
