Rugby: Harlow are on their way to Twickenham after semi-final triumph in cup

Rugby / Sun 30th Apr 2023 at 08:58am

HARLOW Rugby Club will be travelling to the home of rugby next week after beating Cockermouth 27-12 at Latton Park on Saturday.

On a warm spring afternoon, hundreds flocked in anticipation of seeing history being made by the Redmen.

But they were also aware that Cockermouth had been on a great run to get to the semi finals.

The first half was like no other half this season in that Harlow really didn’t have it their own way.

Whatever they threw at the Lake District side, they threw back at Harlow. Harlow scored, Cockermouth went up the other end and scored.

But the end of the first half was significant as Harlow went in 12-7 ahead. What’s more, Cockermouth looked to be breathing quite heavily and a number of players had taken big hits.

So it was, that Harlow scored early in the second half and never really looked back.

They started to overpower the opposition and looked more or less in control for the remainder of the game.

When the final whistle went, the players, coaching staff and crowd were ecstatic.

May we congratulate Cockermouth for their great play and more importantly, their outstanding sportsmanship. They were a credit to Cumbria.

They were all now making their travel plans to Twickenham next Sunday where they face Old Alleyns.
