Athletics: Time Waights for no man as John breaks Vet 55 record

HARLOW Running and Tri Club triathletes were in action at two events over the weekend.
At the Saffron Walden Sprint Triathlon (400m pool swim, 23km bike, 5km run) Ben Usher finished in 16th place out of 120 finishers in 1hr 16min 21sec. He was followed home by Ryan Smith in 21st place in 1.18.46, Terri Wiley 22nd in 1.18.47, Louise Kedge 29th in 1.22.33, Jamie Olsen Ferreira 55th in 1.29.31 in his debut triathlon, Emma Luck 91st in 1.39.56, Kerry Mavris 94th in 1.40.35 and Alan Cootes 95th in 1.40.50.
Meanwhile, at the Eton Dorney Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 21.2k bike, 5k run) Jon Waight finished in 26th place out of 148 finishers in an excellent 1.18.24, a PB and a new Vet 55 Club Record.
The Halstead and Essex Marathon was run on an undulating course and in warm temperatures on Sunday morning resulting in not so very fast times. However, Colin Moody finished in 131st place out of 221 finishers and 1st Vet 70, to win the Vet 70 Essex County Gold Medal, in 4.21.44. Also running was Paul Watts in 219th place in 6.39.35.
On a thankfully cooler Saturday, Fieke Blackwell completed the 100k Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge in Dorset, finishing in 27th place out of 550 finishers in an exhausting 14hrs 48min 47min.
At the Dereham 10 mile race in Norfolk Martin Westley finished in 16th place out of 376 finishers in a fantastic sub 1 hour time of 59min 56sec and Liz Roberts was 351st in 1.43.50.
Sean Flynn completed the Long Marston Cricket Club 10k at Tring finishing in 44th place out of 122 finishers in 51.54.
Laura Prime ran the Birthday Run, Suffolk Running Centre, completing 3 laps for a time of 3.24.44.
There were parkrun PBs at Harlow parkrun from Marc Unwin, finishing in 51st place out of 238 finishers in 24.52, Kelly Spires 69th in 26.15, Clair Clark 137th in 31.09 and Sarah Medlock 143rd in 31.20.
Sue Reilly finished Clacton Seafront parkrun in 103rd place out of 173 finishers in a PB time of 31.22.
