HARLOW AC is delighted to announce the selection of Richard Chiassaro for the World Para Athletics Championships, in Paris, and to confirm the selection of Rosa Huntington to the Special Olympics Team, in Berlin.

Between 8 and 17 June, nineteen women and twenty-seven men have been selected in a strong Para squad to compete at the World Para Athletics Championships. Richard Chiassaro has been selected for the T54 wheelchair 400m. He is one of three athletes who will compete in this event for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Head of Paralympic Performance, Tom Paulson said of the team, “I am really pleased that we have selected such a strong team. It is an important stage in the cycle leading into the Paralympic Games.”

As soon as this event is over, between 17 and 25 June, attention turns to Berlin. Over 7000 athletes, from 130 countries will come together to participate in the World Special Olympics. They will compete in twenty-four sports. Harlow AC club member, Rosa Huntington, was selected in a long list squad in November and it has now been confirmed that she will be amongst them for athletics. Huntington will be competing in the 100m for the first time, and will be defending her title in the Javelin.

Club Chair, Steve Lott, said of the selections, “I hope neither athlete will mind me saying that they are reaching the veteran stage of their careers. It is fantastic that they are still in the minds of selectors and performing to world-class levels for their disciplines. They are truly an inspiration to our younger members and are certainly helping to spur on a crop of talented youngsters. We wish them both well as they head off to Paris and Berlin respectively.”
