CHURCH Langley couple Gaetano and Tracy Montalbano used to come and go as they pleased to Italy, like any ordinary Europeans.
Now they have to limit their stay to Sicily..
The couple in their fifties from Church Langley own a cosy dwelling in tiny Cianciana, where Mr Montalbano’s ancestors hailed from.
But Brexit has changed all that.

What a crass comment from RayMo. EDITOR i thought you had banned people from posting moronic comments like this while and hiding behind a fake name. Sadly, like so many otjer aspects of Brexit the reality was not explained. There is nothing you can do but accept the rules set by this government. More optimistically, only Three more years have to pass before we can reapply to join, by which time most of the UK population will support.
Did these good people of Church Langley Village vote Brexit?
Ah - no they didnt. I should have read the article from The i Newspaper.
Good god if this is the best Yourharlow can come up with for a news story, I’m sure there is people in the same position. Is it a feel sorry for them article cos I don’t
Must be terrible when you got familys in harlow struggling to eat under these torys and u cry about ur 2nd home
They should feel lucky to spend up to 180 days in a year abroad. Remainers should stop whining about Brexit and recognise that a majority voted to leave the EU and end free movement. I not only voted to Remain, I also campaigned with the Labour Party to remain. However, I believe a majority decision must be upheld, because that is democracy.
If they want to spend more than 6 months of the year in Sicily, then surely when they are in the uk they are in effect abroad as their “holiday home” would then become their primary residence. Another great non/ back to front story from the “I”
Just to point out I have no idea how this ended up in yourHarlow! This was written by an American reporter doing some research in Cianciana about expats who hailed from the town! Yes it’s inconvenient that we can’t go when we want however this was bought as long term plan for retirement. I do apologies to those who made the sarcastic comments and are offended by us owning this house, but we’ve worked our butts off to achieve a dream, don’t smoke or spend hours in the pub, plough any spare money into our family, home and raising our kids while working full time! Now we are getting older we have a dream that we fully intend to implement. Let’s be honest lots of people spend more on a car, work hard and anyone can achieve their dreams!
