A SHEERING resident has just published a book on Harlow’s Sculpture Walks.
Peter Alymer’s book takes you to many of Harlow’s sculptures. One walk is nearly a mile that takes you around the Town Centre. The two others take you further out, a medium walk of around five miles, and a longer one of around 15 miles, this is possible to split.
Peter wants these walks to be not just about sculpture. As you walk, you will also gain an appreciation of the layout of Harlow, and the planning principles that Sir Freddrick Gibberd brought to the town.
The price of the Guide is £8.00 and this includes a donation of £2.00 to the Harlow Art Trust. This money will be used to support the care of the 100 plus sculptures in Harlow Sculpture Town.
Peter Aylmer lives in Sheering. His rich understanding of Essex and its countryside started young, visiting his uncle’s farm in the Rodings.
Since discovering walking as a young man, he’s since climbed many hills and walked many long distance paths all over Britain, but still relishes the surprise on people’s faces when he tells them that some of his favourite walking is within his home county.
As well as his Trailman series, Peter is the author of the Cicerone Press guides Walking in Essex (second edition, 2019) and Walking in London (second edition, 2023).
Peter’s website trailman.co.uk has details of many walks across Britain.

Love them or hate them the sculptures are part of Harlow's history a lot of kids have clambered on or over them over the years using them as climbing frames without really giving them much more than a second glance until their parents have told them to get off!
Hopefully they are appreciated 👍
