ON a half-rainy, half-sunny Saturday, the Hawks faced London Colney in their third pre-season friendly of the 2023/24 campaign.

Being beaten 6-1 away at Romford in their first fixture since returning, a lot of questions had been asked about the quality of Danny Chapman’s side, and whether they would be good enough to compete in the Thurlow Nunn League, however after a 3-2 win over Takeley on home turf, confidence was high amongst the fans heading into the London Colney game.

Once again, the boys in red did not disappoint! Harlow started on the front foot, teasing the opposition and an early goal from Jake Davis, sneaking it at the near post, gave them the early 1-0 lead and the momentum.

As the game progressed, Harlow were watertight in defence – so despite London Colney’s chance creation from open play and a number of set pieces, they were unable to find the net. Ishaq Ameen then made no mistake in doubling the lead with a powerful header as a result of a great delivery from Ruben Santos.

Almost immediately after play was resumed, Harlow pounced at another counter attacking opportunity, with Ishaq netting once again for our third goal of the game.

Harlow’s chances were aplenty until an eventual handball was given against a London Colney player, and a penalty was awarded. The experienced Robbie Farrell slotted it home, for his first Harlow Town goal.

The Hawks then rubbed salt in London Colney wounds as a rapid run from Joshua Brown set up another Robbie Farrell goal, the final of the game: a 5-0 win for the reds!

It was fantastic to see so many fans yet again, and we are ever-thankful for the incredible support over the last week, and before that in the build up to our return; we hope to see you all on Tuesday, when we will face Harpenden Town at the Pardus Wealth Stadium, with a 19.45 kick off… and don’t forget admission is FREE!

So, don’t hesitate to come and support the red army, in our preparations for the season ahead.
