Muslim community leaders react to arson attack on mosque in Harlow

MUSLIM leaders and elders are determined to continue using their Northbrooks Mosque despite it being targeted by arsonists.

YH went down to the mosque to speak to community leader Jamal Uddin about what had happened and the response from across the community in Harlow.

Jamal came to Harlow in 1974 and is determined to bind the whole community together despite this attack.

Two people have been arrested as part of a police investigation into an incident in Harberts Road, Harlow.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at Northbrooks Mosque shortly after 9.30pm last night, Tuesday 9 August 2023.

Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries and the actions of firefighters meant damage was contained.

At this stage, the incident is being treated as racially aggravated arson and is being investigated by Harlow CID. 

Two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of arson and will be questioned throughout today.

Out of curiosity, why is this being treated as "racially motivated" when being Muslim is not a race, but a religion?
