THE SHADOW minister for schools has visited Harlow and expressed his grave concern at the problems facing Sir Frederick Gibberd College.
Portsmouth MP Stephen Morgan visited Passmores Academy to congratulate pupils on their GCSE results along with parliamentary candidate, Chris Vince.
Mr Morgan said: “Parents, students and school staff who were getting ready to return to school will rightly be outraged that a £29m school building opened in 2021 has been ordered to close already due to structural issues.
“Sadly, under the current government this is not surprising as we are seeing similar problems with the school estate cropping up across the country at an alarming rate.”
“Chris Vince is absolutely right to be acting on behalf of Harlow families in asking Education Ministers to urgently get to the bottom of this, and I will continue to work alongside him to ensure we get the answers parents, teachers and young people deserve.”
In June this year the National Audit Office published a report on the condition of the school buildings. Incredibly, in 2020 the Department for Education (DfE) estimated that the condition need of the whole school estate was £11.4 billion. This total does not include the cost of rectifying structural or asbestos-related issues. In Essex County the school condition need per pupil varied between £1,000 and £1,499.99, placing it in the midrange. The DfE considered 700,000 pupils were learning in schools that needed major rebuilding or refurbishment. Who is this character with Mr Absolutely, You Know? God help us! Couldn't run a bath between them.
WELL WHAT WOULD BE EXPECTED FROM THIS CRIMINALLY CORRUPT NASTY GOVERNMENT.
I am with Colm Ross! Jobs for the boys and then the company goes into liquidation so cannot be held responsible, so once again down to us, the taxpayers! Meanwhile many fat cats pockets have been lined. Abhorrent behaviour by the government yet again. PPE saga springs to mind to name just one criminal debacle 🤬
