Sir Frederick Gibberd College aim to start new term for most pupils on Wednesday

PARENTS of pupils at Sir Frederick Gibberd College (SFG) have expressed frustration that the pupils will not be starting on Monday.
Earlier in the week, parents were told that “Years 8-11 term will start during the week commencing 11th September.
“We will confirm the exact date in a few days.
“This depends on the plans we’re initiating at speed so we ask for you to please bear with us while we get this right”
Parents of Year 8 to 11 pupils received an e-mail late on Friday evening, informing them of the latest proposed arrangements.
An e-mail seen by YH has told parents that they are “aiming to resume face-to-face teaching from Wednesday 13th September.
“Our temporary accommodation is looking lovely. Currently it is going through the last checks and the furniture decant.
“Children need to get ready to return to school for Wednesday 13th September. We have coaches arriving in the morning and at the end of the day for Year 7, so the front entrance is quite busy. Hence, we are going to open the side entrance too. Our staff will be at the entrances welcoming the children and helping them navigate the site.”
However, there are still many frustrated parents out there.
A parent told YH: “We have just been told at 6pm on Friday that our children won’t be going back until Wednesday.
“How does that work with parents who have childcare arrangements?
“As for work, it is unlikely that many bosses are going to understand what’s going on; let alone be accommodating.”
Another parent said: “I think we are being caught in the cross hairs of government legalese. “Aiming to resume and starting from are just two examples.
“Once again, I am not blaming the schools but rather the Department for Education”
The parliamentary candidate for Harlow, Chris Vince said: “”This last minute change of return date will throw another spanner in the works of many parents plans.
“The school made clear they were waiting for updates from the Robert Halfon’s DfE. He has let Harlow residents down again”.
.
The school never said they would be back Monday they said W/C 11th date to be confirmed !
Cd. I think you are missing the point, the frustration arises from the new date not being revealed until after 6pm on Friday, giving parents very little time to arrange childcare for Monday and Tuesday. The DfE are responsible for the timing of the announcement. Robert Halfon, a Minister in the DfE, should have got the news out to parents much earlier.
That's the Halfon that has said nothing thus far. I do understand your frustration Mark and the communication stream is not great. However these are exceptional circumstances and things are likely not known until the 11th hour. Don't be surprised if this changes again. I have seen no mention of risk assessment being published, nor DofE sign-off. Has Fire safety been assessed and approved, what are the emergency evacuation processes and so the list goes on.........
At the age of 74 i have nearly always voted both locally and nationally for the conservative party as i always felt that they were right in their approach to the matter in hand. However never again. I am just about sick to death of the amount of daily crap that they are shouting about. Even in one of todays national papers sunak now claims to be cutting the rate of illegal channel crossings. He has done nothing on this matter except to give the french millions of our money to stop them which totally failed. When he was elected he promised the nation that he and he alone would stop this. What a liar what a failure. He should be spending more time here than on all this useless globetrotting jollies. The point is you just cannot trust any politician and halfon is no exception. If this was a photo shoot he would have crept out of his slimmy pit and told the whole world how wonderful he is but as usual nothing positive. The one thing we should all expect is a trusted government minister and in that gutless westminster yes man we do not have
My daughter is year 7 SFG and my son is year 10 mark hall I have to drop my son off for 8.20 but my daughter can’t be on mark hall grounds till 9am I can’t drop my daughter off at SFG before 8am as was originally planned to go to breakfast club at 7.30am so I can get my son to mark hall before 8.20. Now I have to drop my son anyway near mark hall last 3 days on school run I’ve had to drop him off whilst in traffic just so he is in school on time then either I wait 40 minutes in the car or drop her to SFG to get the coach in for her only to go back to mark hall where her brother has just been dropped 😩
