Greater Anglia unveil new improvement at Harlow Mill railway station

Lifestyle / Tue 12th Sep 2023 at 06:46am

PASSENGERS at Harlow Mill station in Essex are now benefiting from improvements completed by Greater Anglia.

The refurbishment programme has seen 10 new car parking spaces added, bringing the total to 34 spaces available, along with an additional space for blue badge holders.

LED lighting has also been installed and now illuminates the car park for the first time since the station was originally opened.

A new secure 12-space cycle storage facility was installed with LED lighting, CCTV cameras, and six more spaces than before meaning that passengers can leave their bikes at the station safely while they travel.

The waiting area on the London-bound platform 1 has been improved with the addition of an enclosed room and seating. Passengers will be able to wait in sleek surroundings and take advantage of new seating, improved LED lighting, and a heating and cooling system. There is also a book swap shelf. Passengers are encouraged to make a positive change and reuse the books they have already read by passing them on to others.

As part of Greater Anglia’s wider safeguarding strategy to ensure that everyone has access to emotional support if they need it, a screen displaying safety and wellbeing information has also been installed within the new waiting area. Funded by Network Rail, the display will showcase emotional support charities Samaritans and Shout.

Information will also be presented on the new screen from the Hub of Hope App – a national mental health database that brings help and support together in one place.

Greater Anglia has also installed an additional ticket machine in the newly built covered area adjacent to the new waiting room.

Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia’s Asset Management Director, said:

“The work at Harlow Mill means that passengers have a modern waiting area, improved lighting, and better cycle storage facilities.

“I would like to thank customers for their patience while this work was carried out.

“Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service to our customers.”

But still no station staff or ticket office staff, so if there's trouble or difficulty then tough luck.

10 extra spaces still won't make the trains run on time!!!!

What about installing glass barriers to stop people committing suicide, jumping in front of the express trains?

What about installing glass barriers to stop people committing suicide, jumping in front of the express trains? How many more lives have to be lost here before Greater Anglia, Harlow council, emergency services, mental health groups, community and community groups get together to action barriers at this suicide hotspot?

Focus on the basics. Get the trains running on time and frequently. Keep them clean and free of antisocial behaviour. The railways are incredibly poor value for money.

How long before Robert Halfon MP makes it quite clear that on behalf of his constituents he roundly rejects Greater Anglia proposals re ticket Office Closures? He says he ' seeks assurances' 'from Greater Anglia . The only assurance his constituents need is that Ticket Office closures and staff reduction are dropped immediately! How long before Harlow Council administration takes note of their residents outrage at the proposals ?.A 'listening Council ' ? - absolutely no evidence of that ! Meanwhile , Councils of all political pursuasions across the Country have rejected these proposals which jepodise safety and accessability . A swap book shelf , 10 car park spaces ,a waiting area and info on a board will not save lives or ensure safe accessible travel. A member of the railway staff may well ! Come on Cllr Dan Swords state your administration's position on this issue as you were invited to do a couple of weeks back. Harlow SOTO

Something needs to be done so people can’t take their life down there , trains should slow down going through that’s 1 big thing , monitoring cctv so people can be spotted if acting strange , rail sheriffs , or barriers of some sort , not extra parking
