HORSPATH Track, in Oxford, played host to Inter-Counties U17/U20 match, the final major event of the summer athletic season. Harlow Athletic Club member, Samson Brichieri-Colombi, earned a selection for the U17 700g javelin with Essex.

Prior to the competition, he had a best mark of 46.61m. In a fine way to end his season, he smashed this, to record a personal best throw of 49.03m; a throw that elevates him into the national top 25 athletes. The new distance was also good enough to see him sixth overall in the match.

The selection was an excellent reward for a young man who has juggled exams and matches and competed in both youth and senior events. It was also the club’s third County selection of the season, following Kitty Tyson’s U13 hurdle selection, and Beth Harryman’s senior selection. Sadly, injury meant Harryman had to decline her place.

The club’s outdoor season has certainly been a successful one, and now attention turns to Cross Country.
