Organiser of The Knife Project, Mel Hopwood thanks whole community of Harlow for their support

WHEN WE first interviewed Mel Hopwood a few years ago, we left her home thinking that her plans to bring The Knife Angel to Harlow seemed too ambitious and too much hard work.
We clearly underestimated the formidable Mel Hopwood and her ability to bring a community together.
Not only the people of Harlow but also work with all the key agencies like the police and the council.
It was quite a moment to see the Knife Angel arrive and quite a moment to see Mel on the stage delivering an impassioned speech.
On Friday, we went up to the Knife Angle to speak to Mel about how the month of activities have gone on and reflect on what it has meant to Mel and the people of Harlow.

Mel is a Harlow Hero! Bringing so much good and positivity from a personal tragedy, she is absolutely amazing, it’s an honour to call her a friend. I urge anyone who hasn’t already done so to visit the Angel and speak to Mel, it’s a very emotional and powerful experience.

When I was young and in care. I had no one but at least I had youth club and boxing clubs I used to go to but these kids don’t even have any. Government and local councils only care about building flats and bringing London rejects to town
