Romford 3 v 4 Frontiers Ladies
A FOUR goal second half sees Frontiers win their opening league game of the season.
After a disappointing first half with injuries and conceding two goals, half time couldn’t come quick enough.
But the second half saw Frontiers came out stronger, moved the ball quicker and kept possession better and it would only take 10 minutes into the half for Frontiers to get a goal back when Rae Nelson played the ball down the right wing which found Ella Fobbester who cut back onto her left foot, beat two defenders and fired home from 12 yards to make 2-1.
Now with a foot back in the game, you could see Frontiers looking more confident and it wouldn’t be long until the score line was all square when Tayla Handscomb’s corner fell to Bee Taspinar who would flick the ball past the keeper into the corner of the goal 2-2.
Frontiers were gaining control of the game aiming to complete the come back and take the lead which they did after the ball failed to be cleared by the home side and ended up with the home side defender handling the ball resulting in a penalty which Tayla Handscomb stepped up and calmly fire past the Romford keeper to make it 3-2.
Romford could have made it 3-3 when the ball was played over the top to find their striker but keeper Jill Bartholomew would produce and important save putting the ball round the far post for a corner.
Romford were not done there. They got a throw down the left where their player would beat the full back and curl the ball in to the top right hand corner. 3-3
With 10 minutes to play the result was in the balance and both teams pushing for the win. Tayla Handscomb won the ball on the left hand side of midfield, made a threatening run in to the box beating a couple of Romford defenders before being able to get her shot off she was fouled and Frontiers were awarded their second penalty of the game. After dusting herself off Tayla stepped up with a carbon copy of the first pen, beating the keeper to the same side.
Final score Romford 3-4 Frontiers
Afterwards Ronnie Yates said “The first half display just wasn’t good enough with the standard we have set ourselves but credit to the players turning it around second half.
“The team today showed an exceptional fight in the latter stages of the game to gain the win.
Three points are the main thing and can move on the next week”
Sunday players of the match were Ella Fobbester and Tayla Handscomb.
Next Sunday they are on the road again as we travel to face Tigers Ladies
