Thurlow Nunn League Division South
Harlow Town 1 v 1 Barkingside
THIS game will not live long in the memory. There are probably very few positives that Harlow Town can take away from it.
One could be that Barkingside are much better than their league position would show. They sit fifth from bottom, on the same number of points as a team in the drop zone.
They are much better than that.
Harlow Town were poor today. Not for the whole ninety minutes. There was a period around the hour make when they took the game by the scruff of the neck and were unlucky not to score. They even hit the bar.
But before that they really lacked punch in front of goal.
There would be a number of passes followed by an unforced error.
It was the first time, this reporter had seen them when they could say, this is definitely a Step 6 team.
However, they kept their heads down and kept playing.
Barkingside opened the scoring in the 8th minute, through the solid Fred Agyeman. He had space and time to place his shot from outside the area and into the bottom corner.
Harlow didn’t panic, nor did they set the world on fire. They saw plenty of the ball but all the attacks lacked invention and bite.
Barkingside should have made it two when they broke free but Josh Devlins’ effort went wide.
Harlow equalised just before half time when Junior Dadson side footed it from close range.
Fans were hoping Harlow would score in the second half but they never got going. Gavin Cockman came on and put in a shift but again didn’t really trouble the keeper.
Harlow’s Ishaq Ameen and Alex Luque came off with injuries. We hope they are both on the mend.
This will definitely be seen as two points dropped however Harlow still sit in second place on equal points with leaders Dunmow Town.
They return to league action on Saturday at home to table toppers Dunmow Town.
That should be a cracker and we hope all 325 fans that were here on Saturday return (and more).
A town of 90000 with lots of professional teams within an hour on the border of London, should really be in national league HTFC gotta start cracking the whip, get the best out of the players, if that is the best they can perform, bring in players that can do the job and start winning leagues and get to where we belong
