Corinthians 0 v 5 Frontiers Ladies

ON Sunday the Ladies headed to the seaside to face Corinthians. On what was a very warm and sunny October afternoon, it didn’t take long for Frontiers to create a couple of half chances but couldn’t get what would have been a deserved goal in the early stages.

The opening goal of the game came after 15 minutes where some good build up play in the middle of the park resulted in a pin point pass from Tayla Handscomb which found winger Ash Simonelli’s run for her to take it in her stride and chip the ball over the keeper from 20 yards to make it 0-1.

With Frontier’s now in control of the game, provider became scorer when Lauren Yeats’ through ball found Tayla Handscomb who shot into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance 0-2.

Our second goal seemed to wake the home side up a bit and saw them having more of the ball but the solid Frontiers defence held strong when called upon make some great challenges and would see out the first half as it come to an end.

Second half started slowly and took time for us to settle which gave the home side confidence and saw a couple of half chances come and go without any real threat, but once we got going again a lot of the play was being played in the home sides half.

Frontier’s were creating multiple chances but failed to capitalise through some wrong indecisiveness or the home sides keeper making some good saves but it only looked like the 3rd goal was going to go one way and that it did, our 3rd of the day saw a great block tackle from Shelley Anglin just outside her own box followed by a pass from that same foot in to Donna Watts feet on the half way line, with an exquisite touch and turn Donna ran at pace attacking the home side’s defence passing 3 defenders and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner from 8 yards 0-3.

With the heat playing it’s part in the game you could see the home side tire and we capitalised on this in the last 10 minutes of the game and saw our 4th goal come from a free kick from Jackie Day find Ash Simonelli break the defensive line with not a player in sight run through 1 on 1 with the keeper and gave her no chance and she drive the ball home 4-0.

Frontiers were not quite done yet, Ash Simonelli on her 50th appearance for the club would go on to get her hat-trick from 35 yards, having great vision to clock the keep off her line and her shot sailed over the keeper in to the back off the net.

Full Time Corinthians 0-5 Frontiers

After the game manager Ronnie Yates said “Was it the best performance of the season, No! but when we did play we looked good, it’s was good to utilise the depth in our squad today after picking up a couple for injuries from last week giving others opportunities and some valuable game time.

“Having a big squad at time can be difficult but some might say a good headache to have but having everyone on board and buying in to what we are trying to do and the buzz around the whole squad is great to see and sometime that alone can win you game. We know we can improve and when called upon to i’m sure we will”

Next week we are at home vs Colchester United in the Essex County Cup 1.30 kick off
