Athletics: Price is right at the Hertfordshire Half Marathon

HARLOW Running and Tri Club members competed with 1400 other runners at the Hertfordshire Half Marathon at Knebworth on Sunday morning. First home for HRTC was Cliff Price in 122nd place in an excellent 1hr 36min 26sec in his debut at the distance. He was closely followed by Matt Spires in 141st place in 1.37.46. Bradley Power was 210th in a PB time of 1.41.23, Ella Wager 267th in 1.44.23, also a PB, Richard Thornton 324th in 1.47.07(Debut), Chris Mack 711th in 2.00.30(Debut), Gail Nicholls 819th in 2.04.08, Sophie Evans 946th in 2.04.41(Debut) and Jane Evans 947th in 2.04.42.
At the same location, in the 10k event Kerry Pugsley finished in 372nd place out of 767 finishers in 59.35, in her debut at the distance, Melissa Rowlands was 373rd in 59.36, a PB by an incredible 9 minutes, Charleen Tillotson 386th in 1.00.23 and Alex Soady 506th in 1.04.59.
Meanwhile, at the Maverick Exposure Lights Dark Surrey (15km) race Colin Baker finished in 18th place out of 210 finishers in 1.11.11 and James Dowsett was 47th in 1.20.38.
At the Zig Zag Fireworks Festival of Running event at Wodson Park Sports Centre, Ware, Laura Prime completed 105.5 laps of the athletics track which equates to the full marathon distance of 26miles 385yards. Laura finished in 6th place out of 25 finishers and 1st Female in a superb 4.20.13.
The latest round of the Essex XC League was held over a 5 mile course at Writtle.
In the Men’s race Rob Lowe finished in 70th place out of 296 finishers in an excellent 31.16. He was followed home by Martin Westley in 81st place in 31.54, Ryan Smith was 156th in 34.57, Andy Terrell 186th in 36.13 and Chris Burgess 231st in 38.43.
In the Women’s race Linda Helm-Manley finished in 93rd place out of 174 finishers in a superb 38.40, Tracy Stratford was 111th in 40.41, Michelle Sheridan 115th in 41.08, Kerry Mavris 116th in 41.26, Sandra Webber 142nd in 44.59, Liz Roberts 159th in 48.37 and Selina Morgan 161st in 498.26.
There were 5k PBs at Harlow parkrun from Michael Houlihan finishing in 51st place out of 169 finishers in 26.24 and Luke Remfrey 72nd in 28.05.
