Swimming: Busy weekend for Harlow Penguins at Essex Winter Champs

IT was a busy weekend in the water for the Harlow Penguins kicking off with the Senior County Championships.
Saturday delivered three finalist spots from Max A for 100 free, Glennon L in 100 Breast and Brianna H 100 Back – all four securing 4th place in the final showdown at the end of the day.
Sunday kicked off with a bright start with Glennon L securing the Penguins first podium spot with a bronze medal in the 50 Breast, and George J claiming the same for the 400 free. These were closely followed by finals for Brianna H in the 50 back, and Michael M in the 400 free.
The crowning glory for the weekend came in the final race of the weekend where Max A gained a new PB in the final of the 200 free gaining a gold medal and raising the county champion trophy.
While the seniors fought it out in Basildon, the junior members of the club took the trip around the M25 to compete at the Hitchin County Qualifier. Medals were won across the board from Isabelle F, Lucy D, Emily F, Bobby M, Lucas P, Holly F, May D, Phoebe K, Phoebe F, Lillie F, Lois L, Amelia W, Charlie P, Cooper S, Evie L, Neve C, Ivy P, Freya G, Ellis R, Kayla S, and Alby J with some great personal bests achieved.
The weekend was wrapped up fantastically with Henry O representing Penguns in an outstanding fashion at the British National Down Syndrome Championships in Crawley. Gaining a bronze in the 25m back, and silvers in both the 50 back and 100 free.

We saw some great personal best swims which is exciting at this stage of the season and with age group county championships fast approaching, Max triumphing at the Senior champs, and medals for so many of our swimmers we have a great season in front of us!”
