SO far this month, Roads Policing officers have arrested 96 drivers since our drink drive campaign was launched.
Between 1-11 December, Roads Policing officers conducted a total of 49 roadside drink drive tests and 30 roadside drug wipe tests as part of a clampdown aimed at keeping our roads safe over Christmas. Furthermore, 17 drivers failed to provide a specimen (drink drive).
The arrests were a result of proactive patrols across the whole of the county.
This year, we’ve arrested 1142 drink drivers, 858 drug divers and 319 drivers who failed to provide a specimen (drink drive): that’s a total of 2319 drivers arrested.
Each year, Essex Police support a national crackdown on drink driving as part of a month-long road safety campaign: this year, the ‘Drink Driving. Together We Can Stop It’ campaign launched on Friday 1 December.
We’re urging the public to ‘help prevent, persuade and call the police’ on drink drivers this Christmas.

Come to Market St, Old Harlow - keep the police busy at the weekend with all the drink/drug drivers here.
Why will they never learn.
Perhaps if their vehicle were scrapped or sold at auction and the proceeds given to charity it might be a deterrent.
You can’t have the best of both worlds people. Either you ban, alcohol and drugs altogether in our society or just get used to it, it’s only getting worse
Er.... Jim, drugs were illegal last time I looked.
