A HARLOW primary school teacher is set to take on the challenge of the London Marathon for charity.

Mark Grant teaches at Hare Street Primary in Harlow.

YH asked Mark why he was running and who he is running for?

” I am running the marathon for “Children With Cancer UK”, because I want to play a small part in raising the crucial funds required to do the research and find solutions, which will give a fighting chance and a future to our children with cancer.

“I have been a teacher for 30 years and I love my job! With this job however, comes the highs and lows of life.

“Unfortunately, cancer has been one of the lows, both in adults and children in my world alone.

“The sad reality is that cancer doesn’t discriminate and lovely little people with all of their lives ahead of them, are sometimes the victims of this cruel and awful disease.

“The devastation just can’t be measured when a child is taken from us!!

My training is going well. Although training in the winter months can be a challenge, I am trying to get out at least three times a week.

“I’m slowly increasing my distances as we get closer to the date and I’m hoping to get a half marathon under my belt within the next month or so”.
