Final opportunity to apply for primary school places

PARENTS and carers of children who will start primary school in September encouraged to complete applications.
Parents and carers are reminded that they have less than a week left to apply for their child’s primary school place.
Children are entitled to start school in the September after their fourth birthday, meaning parents or carers of children born during the period 1 Sept 2019 and 31 August 2020 must apply by Monday 15 January 2024.
Applications submitted after the deadline will only be considered after all the on-time applications. Essex County Council is urging families to give themselves the best chance of being considered for a school they prefer by getting applications in on time.
The council has also encouraged parents and carers to use all four of the preferences available and to check the admissions criteria for each school they wish to apply for. This will ensure they have the best chance of being offered a preferred place.
Applications can be made online at www.essex.gov.uk/admissions.
Councillor Tony Ball, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Life-long Learning and Employability, said: “Starting school for the first time is a big milestone in a child’s life. It is really important that applications for school places are received on time to give children and their parents the best chance of being considered for their preferred school.
“The deadline for applications is 15 January 2024 so I would urge any parents and carers who haven’t already applied for their child’s school place to get their application submitted.”
