HARLOW Running and Tri Club were represented at both the Essex and Herts Senior Cross Country Championships at the weekend.
The Essex Senior Men’s XC County Championships were held at Gloucester Park, Basildon, over a distance of 12k. The organisers laid out a memorable course featuring hair pin turns, straw bales and racing through a marquee with spectators chiming their approval with cow bells and whistles. All this on sodden ground which sapped the energy. There were also three hills, the first a long hill, the second hill was short, but steep and very sodden under foot and proved a challenge and the third hill was an absolute killer, very steep first 40m before dragging out for a good 100m.
Martin Westley represented the club, finishing in 107th place out of 223 finishers in an excellent 55min 21sec.
The Herts Senior Ladies XC County Champs were held at Verulanium Park, St Albans, over an 8k course. Linda Helm-Manley finished in 62nd place out of 87 finishers in 47.36.
Meanwhile, at the Welwyn Half Marathon Fieke Blackwell finished in 53rd place out of 240 finishers in 1hr 43min 55sec and Sean Flynn was 144th in 2.00.56.
At the Victoria Park 10k Tom Beales finished in 362nd place out of 371 finishers in 1.16.46.
There were 5k PBs at Harlow parkrun for Lewis Townsend finishing in 7th place out of 344 finishers in 20.35, Sam Spurgeon 28th in 23.24, Jack Waight 91st in 26.12 and Bobbie Muschamp 184th in 30.27.
At Stormont parkrun Charleen Tillotson finished in 224th place out of 473 finishers in a PB time of 27.44.
