Football: Frontiers begin the New Year with hard earned victory

SUNDAY saw Frontiers Ladies kick off 2024 with a trip to Beacon Hill in the County Trophy.
Frontiers started on the front foot creating numerous chances but were unable to put any of them away until the 31st minute when Kelly Holsworth took a quick throw to Jackie Day and her forward pass found Tayla Handscomb who flicked the ball round the defender to find the forward run of Ella Fobbester who tapped the ball around the keeper and put the ball into a empty net to make it 1 -0
It would stay that way for the rest of the half.
Second half and Frontiers started very slowly. They were punished for that as Beacon Hill found themselves an equaliser out of nothing when they failed to shut the ball down and the shot went in 1-1.
That seemed to wake them up as they started moving the ball quicker again and pushing Beacon Hill further and further back creating a couple of good chances that were well saved by the Beacon keeper pushing them wide of her goal but on the 81st minute Kelly Holsworth’s early cross deflected in to the path of Tayla Handscomb 25 yards out, she took a touch and her shot rocketed past the home keeper to give Frontiers the lead again.
Now back in front, they kept the ball well for the last 10 minutes and let Beacon Hill have very little possession.
Bescon Hill 1-2 Frontiers.
Manager Ronnie Yates said after the game: “We were nowhere near our best or near the standards we have set ourselves and the players know that but not playing for five weeks we have put it down to that and they all know we need to do more.
“Going forward but the main thing was the win and progression to the next round of the cup.”
Players of the match: Kelly Holsworth and Tayla Handscomb
Next week they host Hutton Reserve as we get back to league action
