Harlow deputy head Gemma to take on London Marathon for Cancer with Children

Athletics / Thu 11th Jan 2024 at 11:35am

THE next Harlow resident we are following ion they journey to the London Marathon is Gemma Nicholson.

We asked Gemma to tell us why she is taking on all 26 miles and 385 yards.

Gemma said: “I am running for Children with Cancer UK

“I started my career as a teacher in Harlow.. I am now the Deputy Head in Coopersale.

I became a teacher in order to be able to help children reach their full potential academically, emotionally and spiritually.

“Nearly all of us have had our lives turned upside from news of cancer, and as adults this can be hard to process.

“I have seen first hand how children’s lives can be turned upside down due to this terrible illness. This is something no child should ever have to deal with.

I am raising money as my small way of trying to help these pupils and support ongoing research.

“You asked me how is training going? Well, after long school days, I am trying to run either outside or at the gym three times a week.

This Christmas break I completed my first half marathon! I am still having short walking breaks, but I am pleased with my progress. The thought of doing that twice over is currently very daunting though.
