Windpower helps Harlow athletes take on 15-mile challenges

HARLOW Running and Tri Club members competed in two 15 milers on a blustery Sunday morning in preparation for spring marathons.

The Folksworth 15 is a two lap course with three fairly steep hills on each lap making for a testing race. Colin Moody finished in 258th place out of 404 finishers in a respectable 2hrs 15min 35sec, Tracy Stratford was 305th in 2.24.09, in her debut at the distance and Sandra Webber 306th in 2.24.15, also her debut. 

Meanwhile, the Benfleet 15 is a challenging multi-terrain course, incorporating sections of the 2012 Olympic Mountain Bike course, Canvey Island sea wall, and the undulating Hadleigh Downs. Julia Gardiner finished in 383rd place out of 780 finishers in 2.27.23, Kerry Mavris was 424th in 2.30.29 and Gary Mead 445th in 2.32.22.

There were 5k PBs at Harlow parkrun from Lewis Townsend finishing in 6th place out of 263 finishers in 20.20, Ellie Wiseman 49th in 24.51 and Sam Nicholls 85th in 27.26. 

At Maldon Prom parkrun Chris Burgess finished in 24th place out of 321 finishers in a PB time of 22.25.
