A STUNNING all round performance from Chris Whitworth (110 and 2-29) proved too much for Leigh on Sea as Harlow First XZI got their league season off to a fine start. Chris was supported with the bat by Gull Hassan (32) and Abi Farooq (30).

Joe Riddell took 3-44 and Matt Fisk 2-29 as Harlow won comfortably.

The Second XI fixture was much closer but skipper Amir Farooq was the deciding factor with 44 and 3 wickets. Ben Seary also produced a good spell of 3-30 whilst Atif Mustehsen struck 42 and Asad Baig 33.

The Third XI were defeated at Wanstead falling victims to their own over cautious approach as they sought to chase a large total despite Bilal Javed grabbing 3 wickets. Dip Basnet struck 36, Tyler Dobson 32 and George Jessey 29 but it wasn’t enough to recover an inflated required run rate.

Jack Fuller hit a fine 73 supported by Sam Roberston 24 and Naseer Mirza 25 as they posted a handy total of 225 against Brentwood but it wasn’t enough as opponents Brentwood romped home with 13 overs and 6 wickets in hand.

Some staggering performances in the 5th XI victory as Jon Allen smashed 130 not out receiving unbelievable support from 13 year old Harrison Wren on adult debut (Harrison hit a run a ball 59). Emilia Allen (3-33) and Musharaf Hussain (3-22) did the main damage with the ball as Harlow eased to the win.
