Innovation Multisport: Karen conquers MacMillan’s big hike

Athletics / Thu 16th May 2024 at 07:16am

LAST weekend over 2000 walkers taking part in the MacMillan Big Hike along the Norfolk Coast. Starting in Cromer the 26.2 mile hike followed the coastal path through Sheringham, onto Weybourne beach where they had to tackle walking on 3 miles of shingle, then back on the path through Cley-next-the-Sea, Blakeney, Stiffkey, Wells-next-the-Sea and finishing in the fabulous grounds of Holkham Hall.

Karen Kitson and Jennie Gould of Innovation Multisport had took on the challenge of walking the 26.2 miles for charity, and although Jennie didn’t manage to complete the distance due to ill health during training, she said she was proud she started and tried her best and will definitely try a walking marathon again, but never wants to walk on a shingle beach again!

Karen continued on her own with support along the route from her husband Andrew Kitson and 2 members from the club who popped up at various points along the way for encouragment.

With over 11 hours on her feet, and 69,000 steps Karen completed the hike around 6.30pm and said the marshalls and food stations  were amazing and she was grateful for the support from her fellow club members.
