Innovation Multisport: No Fading for Grey as he celebrates 250th parkrun

Athletics / Fri 20th Sep 2024 at 11:15am

SATURDAY 7th Sept at Harlow parkrun saw members celebrate with Innovation Multisport member Chris Grey on reaching the milestone of 250 parkruns! His first parkrun was back in January 2017 and most of the 250 are at Harlow, but recently Chris has been becoming more of a tourist, travelling to different parkruns! His next challenge is to complete his Alphabeteer before the end of 2024, with just a few letters to obtain. The theme for his 250th was 50 Shades of Grey, where everyone who came wore a different shade of Grey!

Sunday 8th Sept was the biggest half marathon in the world, The Great North Run following the 13.1miles from Newcastle to South Shields. Around 60000 runners take part in this iconic event. Steve Cooper and Cat McCabe of Innovation Multisport travelled up north to take part. Steve ran an impressive 1:47:14 which is the start of a few half marathons he has lined up in coming weeks.
Cat has taken part in GNR 3 times previously to this year as it has special memories for her.

Also on the same day, slightly closer to home was Norwich 10k and Oliver Skipper ran a great time of 59.48. Although Oliver doesn’t live in Harlow anymore he is still an active member of the club. He has also got a ballot place for GNR next year!

Midweek racing saw Chris Grey take part in the Hatfield 5k Series and clocked a time of 21.30.

This weekend was Swim Serpentine, in Hyde Park London! It is part of the trio of events you have to do for The London Classics medal. Innovation Multisport had alot of debuts at this 2 mile swim and everyone had been training very hard for this over the summer with pool swims and lake swims at Westmill Farm, Ware.

The weather hadn’t been it’s best in the week leading up to the event which meant the water temperature was lower than they had all trained in. Bit they all did the club proud with their results and achievements!
Jon Waight 1:07.37 Debut
Emily Salmeron 1:08:05 D
Sarah Walker 1:15:34 D
Simon Couper 1:16:01
Dave Nicholas 1:17:45
Dayna Cooper 1:17:46 D
Kelly Burgess 1:20:02 D
Tracie Cook 1:44:51 D

Dave, Kelly and Tracie were also able to pick up their London Classics medal, which is given to participants who have completed Swim Serpentine, Ride London 100mile bike ride and London Marathon.

The super size, very heavy piece of bling is definitely a well deserved medal for taking part in these events after hours of training, miles run, roads cycled and lakes swam!

Sunday 15th Sept was Stevenage 10k and mum and Daughter, Tracey and Sophie Salmeron and Dad and Daughter Ron and Louise Peacock took part on the cycle track undulating route!
Sophie Salmeron 1:07:30
Tracey Salmeron 1:07:39
Louise Peacock 1:12:56
Ron Peacock 1:23:56

Another family running together saw Dawn Shaw take part with her nephew, Chris in the Humber Coastal Half Marathon.

Along with all the events, our members love parkrun and over the 2 weekend they attended 19 different locations, closest was Harlow and furthest was Hasenheide, Berlin!
