New community hub set to launch in The Stow
Crime / Thu 17th Oct 2024 at 02:25pm
THE launch of a new community hub in The Stow is taking place on Saturday 19 October from 10am to 2pm.
The opening of The Safe To Go Stow hub is part of the Clear, Hold, Build initiative led by Essex Police. The hub based at 28 The Stow will be used as a drop-in centre for different agencies to connect with the community.

The programme for the launch day is:
10am to 11am Community Litter Pick
11am to 11.30am – Circus Generation activities
11.30am to 12noon – official opening and refreshments
12noon to 2pm – Circus Generation activities, stalls and other activities
As part of Harlow Council’s missions to renew our neighbourhoods and protect our communities it is supporting the Clear, Hold, Build initiative in various ways including providing the shop unit for use as the hub.
This initiative is good news for the Stow: isn't it? Supported by the council and given a shop unit. So it is good. Contrast that with the treatment given to the residents' of Potter Street. No community hub after the council withdrew support, no local council services after the decided to knock down its former neighbourhood office. So where are our councillors' who speak a good game but do nothing to support those services. And the silly thing is all three are cabinet members! A bloody disgrace.
Since its inception in 2018 The Harlow Alliance Party (HAP) has included the re-instatement of public services provided in each Neighbourhood in its campaign. As the councils former housing manager at the Stow and then the Neighbourhood Manager at the Bush Fair and Potter Street offices I know only to well how residents appreciated being able to deal with council staff, meet police officers and others in a local office, just as they could in other offices doted around the town. Good to see that the local Conservative Party has followed HAP and now provided a shop at The Stow. Lets hope that this initiative, which must not only include safety issues is rolled out across the rest of the town so that residents like Gary Roberts and others can feel the benefit of having a council more closely in touch with residents.
Mr Taylor what odds would you give me on your optimism being realised? Colin Thorpe and I with others tried many times to restore neighbourhood services to Potter Street and were disgracefully let down by this council. You know that as well.
Mr Roberts, I am a little more hopeful that the opening of this office at the Stow today may lead to further such offices being opened in other parts of the town. Neither the Conservatives or Labour when in control of the council have wanted proper engagement with residents, taking the "we know whats best for you" approach to providing services. Unless enough like minded people such as you and Colin and the dozens in the Harlow Alliance Party can break the strangle hold of these two parties in the council chamber by gaining council seats nothing is likely to really change. More people are needed to stand up and say enough is enough and stand for election in May 2026, whether with HAP or as an independent.
