FIREFIGHTERS were called to a kitchen fire in Red Lion Crescent, Harlow at 11:48am on Tuesday morning.
On arrival, crews reported a house was heavily smoke logged and smoke had started to spread to neighbouring properties through the loft.
Crews worked to extinguish a fire in the kitchen while ventilating neighbouring properties.
Crews believe an electrical fault in an air fryer caused the fire.
Watch Manager Brenden Cardy from Harlow Fire Station said: “We recommend you switch off any electrical devices after using them to minimise the risk of a fire. We also recommend you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home to make sure you, your neighbours or any passers-by are alerted to the first signs of a house fire. If you haven’t got working smoke alarms at home, we can fit them for free. Search Essex Fire Book to find out more.
“We recommend you test your smoke alarms at least once a month and we can send you a reminder each month through our monthly newsletter. Visit our website for more information.”
Following the fire, a family member has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay
Katie Bennett said: “I am doing this fundraiser for my sister as she has had a large house fire which caused damage to the whole house as well as the items in there
She also lost a pet due to the fire
She has a one-year old baby and all his stuff was burnt/melted or trashed due to the thick soot

Really sad news for this family to loose a beloved pet and the home they resided in. but come on now people. Let’s look at the picture… look at the state of that kitchen pots and pans left everywhere, dishes piling up, I’m not surprised it’s set alight! And the article said they have a baby living there????? Clean your homes people!
How about you look at the bigger picture here……. They have just had a house fire so things will be everywhere? The cupboards were burnt and everything so how do you know things haven’t been moved to make sure the fire has been put out properly etc? Keep your nasty comments to yourself, this family is going through a horrific time as it is without your judgy unnecessary comments! Swear people do t know the saying of “got nothing nice to say, don’t say it at all” Let’s hope nothing horrific like this happens to you as I dread to think how you’d feel with silly comments like yours being said
Omg wow with the comment that has been posted on here by Sharon M Just to make things clear that isn't just a work surface it's also got an oven there and in the corner is an airfryer The dishes on the side was morning dishes from breakfast as my nephew is on normal food now and not soft stuff behind those couple of dishes was a bottle prep machine I and other baby related stuff that needed to be sold as it wasn't in use anymore but kept it on the side because why not there was room for it! There was a pot on the cooker yeah ur right but if you just needed to do a quick breakfast and go to do some shopping you will either leave it in the sink or on the side but u are also going by one tiny picture! The ceiling fell in cuz how bad the fire was thats all the debris you are classing as piled up crap! Dishes and pans aint gonna catch alight unfortunately the socket blew and the airfryer was the first thing there then the boiler door went up in flames which then caused more of the fire like the huge highchair, I can go on and on but my point is if you look the fire started in the corner and affected that side of the kitchen! No matter having a couple plates or pans out the fire is still going to spread regardless that's what fire does till its put out! You never see the home before the fire it was clean tidy and a loved lived in home with a child and a dog! But if u had cared enough to look for more than just one picture you would of seen the before and after! People please don't judge all im trying to do is raise some money for my sister as she has lost pretty much everything!
