AS you may be aware, from time to time, we like to dip into the crime figures for Harlow and have a look at how many crimes the police in Harlow are solving or, to be more accurate, not solving.
We believe that, for Harlow residents, who year in and year out are asked to shell out more money in their council tax for policing, will look at the data below which reveals that only 2% of car thefts solved and 6% of burglaries solved and may well be wondering if they are due a refund?
These figures are from August 2023 to August 2024.
Below: Crime-No committed-No solved-No solved as a percentage
Violence with Injury: 874-146-16.7%
Stalking and Harassment: 1035-100-9.7%
Rape-105-7-6.7%
Burglary-421-28-6.7%
Theft of Vehicle-405-11-2.7%
Shoplifting-933-287-30.8%
Criminal Damage-878-129-14.7%
Domestic Abuse-1428-201-14.1%
Possession of Weapons-144-85-59%
Public Order-803-166-20.7%

The councils and government as a whole are not doing what they promise and are elected to do. Therefore I would like to withdraw my money from being taxed and given to them since they are not upholding their side of the contract. We are ran by negligent and inefficient bureaucrats who know how to do one thing and one thing only and that's splash money willy nilly.
What is the result for the senior police officers with results this bad, nothing they still get good salaries and pensions. Start firing them if they are not up to the job as would happen in the private sector and you would see a massive difference. It is simple really if the results are not as expected then the management has to go, not to another role, but out the door to set an example.
Unfortunately it seems to be becoming a public sector policy of increasing the costs and reducing the outcomes.
When are the police going to start confiscating electric scooters that are all over Harlow? They are illegal to use on pavements and roads and the police are ignoring them! Yet, if you speed a few miles an hour over the speed limit they are quick to fine you and give you points on your licence!!!
100% agree Adam, if it was a company not performing the management would be in the spotlight and moved on if not performing. In all seriousness to the governance of this country, how do we as people stand up to question and hold the police accountable for their apparent on paper poor stats? Is it even possible? Or do we just have to listen to ecc propose and agree without any public consultation tax rises to cover the police aspect?
These detection rates are shockingly low. Austerity has cut into the bone of policing, as it has all public services. However the scale ofthis failure to deliver is appalling.
Facial recognition police van in Harlow town centre today (30/10/2024 and the police presence was ridiculous. Reminded me of children with a new toy, those police officers could have been deployed elsewhere.
Their senior officers are more interested in DEI, painting their police cars in rainbow colours and arresting people on facebook.
