Hundreds attend Harlow parkrun as it celebrates tenth birthday

Athletics / Sun 10th Nov 2024 at 02:15pm

HARLOW parkrun celebrated its tenth birthday on Saturday morning.

Since November 8th, 2014, people have run, jogged, walked or wheeled around the 5km course in the town park.

Exactly 400 covered the course on Saturday morning. That is the second highest number in the 457 runnings of the event.

Before the run, event director, Lee Webber held a prize giving event accompanied by Harlow MP Chris Vince.

Mr Vince has run the Parkrun 34 times and earlier this year took part in the St Clare Hospice 10K.

Many of the tokens of appreciation went to the original founders of the run plus those who marshal and volunteer week in and week out.

A collection for Harlow Foodbank was also made.

There was also a photo call for those who ran the very first parkrun.

There was special trophy presentations to two of the longest serving volunteers, John Gillespie and Roy Stevens.

Plus a trophy for Kris Foster, who has run the most Harlow park runs, an incredible 345.

We have written a number of pieces on the tenth anniversary, which you can find our sports channel
