Harlow MP Chris Vince urges minister to spend money wisely on SFG College

Chris Vince / Sun 8th Dec 2024 at 01:29pm

HARLOW MP Chris Vince rose on the floor of the House of Commons to ask a question related to Sir Frederick Gibberd College.

Mr Vince said: “Due to our dire economic inheritance, it is vital that every penny of public money is spent wisely. In my constituency of Harlow, £29 million was spent on Sir Frederick Gibberd College only for it to be deemed unsafe and to be pulled down.

“What steps will the Government take to ensure that we spend money wisely, that we do not spend unnecessary money on unnecessary consultants, and that we get the best for the people of Harlow?”

Parliamentary Secretary Georgia Gould said: ‘Under the Conservative Government, too much taxpayers’ money was wasted on eye-watering consultancy contracts.

“We are taking steps to stop all non-essential Government consultancy spending this year and halve Government spending on consultancy in future years.

It might be hard for Conservative Members to hear about their record, but it is harder for us to live with it.

When is the school gonna to get a proper building? Tents and caravans!?! Those poor kids and staff. You gotta feel for them but someone mentioned their results and bloody hell, didn't they do good! I was talking to a few parents and they said they love the school, good discipline, good teaching anx and they can't say enough good stuff about the head. Sounds like we got a good school here. Get them a proper building already!

Another pointless question that allows a Minister to spout platitudes. Maybe one that asked when will the government deliver a new SFG and how much will it cost would have been more useful.

One can only pressume Ms Gould has not spoken to her colleagues in government who have created 67 tax payer funded consultency groups and taskforces since being elected. The fact our yes Kier mp didn't know the statistics either, will suprise no one.

I do wish that labour councillors and the MP would stop using the "dire economic inheritance" get out. It's no different to when a note was left by Labour stating "there is no money left" . Man up and get on with the job!
