1700 hrs: Statement from Essex Police
There is ongoing disruption after a fatal collision on the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 between junctions 27 and 28.
We were first called to the scene at about 11am today, Monday 16 December.
It was reported three people sustained injuries in a three-vehicle collision.
The M25 was closed in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene and despite the best efforts of paramedics, a 68-year-old man died at the scene.
Two people were taken to hospital for further treatment.
The road has now reopened in both directions as emergency services begin leaving the scene, and officers want to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage that will help their investigation.
