BRITISH retailer WH Smith is in talks to sell its high street stores, the business has said reports the BBC.

In a statement on Saturday the firm said that it was “exploring potential strategic options for this profitable and cash generative part of the group, including a possible sale”.

It went on to say that over the past decade, the business had become “a focused global travel retailer,” with more than 1,200 stores across 32 countries.

Harlow has a WH Smiths on the Broad Walk in Harlow Town Centre.

But at the moment it does not appear on any closure lists.

Who would want to by a stationary company in the digital media age, not many I suspect. I'm of an age that I remember having to go to the town centre and to wh smiths if I wanted a birthday/mothers day etc card or even a decent pencil set and artist paper pads. I fear wh smiths will go the way of so many victims of our greater use of the internet and technology which is a shame. A great loss to any hight street.
