This town and many others are no longer as safe as they once was. I worry every time my child leaves for school or goes out. Sadly police presence or fear of the law is no more. Knife crime is on the up and there is no real deterrent for committing crimes. Just makes me sad for our kids.

sigh. This feels like it's never-ending. Bring back on the street police officers and proper consequences. Sad times

I have a pre teen grandson, taught right from wrong, this is such a worry to me for his safety. It seems no one is safe on the streets, even when minding their own business. Too many random attacks , just too many attacks in general, punishments and policing need a MASSIVE review. There's enough negativity in this life without it being literally on our doorsteps.

Living very close to this I am not surprised I see drug dealers everywhere in old Harlow in old road still outside the white horse regularly wast of time telling the police never see a police officer day or night

It's clear that when very recently the lead Police and Crime Roger Hirst proposed cutting the number of PCSOs that the thinking about crime prevention at the highest levels is wrong. Yes, he was forced to do a 180 but the concerned is that to even think about a reduction shows a serious misunderstanding. It's a misunderstanding at cabinet level that is the root cause and that is clearly due to the fact that government works through isolated boxes, department by department each with defined budgets. Thus no one joins the dots. For instance: vastly more expenditure on grassroots sports, neighbourhood policing, youth clubs, youth workers, community schools and afterschool clubs manned by trained coachs will save money in the criminal justice and prisons sector, reduce nhs spending and improve school attendance and student engagement. Yet these dots, the balance sheets, the potential savings and the strategic plans are never put together and if they do exist are compromised by the existing departmental structure. More police on the local beat and every child involved in a programme of personal fitness and development that's given the same level of resources and recognition as the National Curriculum delivered through schools, scouts and clubs would be a start. Prevention is better than cure, and costs less!

Gosh terrible. Poor kid. This seems to be happening every week now. I grew up in 90s hackney and I'd say Harlow is worse. It seems too easy to get into an altercation here. Literally just walked passed some bloke the other day and he started mouthing off threatening to stab me. I would never allow my kids to walk alone around here. Yet the property prices are so high. High prices for constant crime. I feel punishments have got to be tougher. Tougher sentences and harder conditions in prisons. They always say that won't work but have they tried it? O I forgot we have no prison spaces. Great way to deter crime then. The state can't fix this. Only God can. We need to bring god back to society. Hope the kid recovers well.

How many parents are taking Thier kids to church? You could probably find a correlation that the decrease in church attendance has coincided with this increase in crime voilence and lack of values and ethics within society

Pffft church

John this has nothing to do with religion or church, its all to do with how little respect kids have now days. Punishments need to be harsher, police need to be more present and disrespect needs to be shut down at the earliest sign. Get kids in to sports, boxing, rugby, football, that will teach them respect, discipline and give them some self worth, not in to church that is a nonsense comment.

"Get kids in to sports, boxing, rugby, football, that will teach them respect, discipline and give them some self worth" Except many of them already are doing those things and still getting into trouble which shows how out of touch you are with the youth too. Nonsense comment indeed. Self worth doesn't equate to good morality.
